Swim School

Our learn-to-swim programme for children of all ages is taught by qualified instructors.

Swimming Lessons For Children Of All Ages

Our Swim School programme offers progressive swimming lessons in our indoor pools for children of all ages, from babies and toddlers through to teenagers. We also offer private swimming lessons for children and adults.

Swim School

Next Generation Clubs Swim School runs during school term time with most courses lasting eight or nine weeks. Children are booked into a class according to their ability for the duration of a term and wherever possible, children will have the same instructor for the course. In some instances an assessment may be needed when children first enrol into Swim School to determine the best starting level.

At the end of each term, our swim instructors will assess the children’s progress and make recommendations for the next term. Once children have satisfied the requirements of the current level they then progress through to the next level, although it is often the case that children will stay at the current level for more than one term whilst they build their confidence and abilities.

The different levels are as follows:

SNAPPER (6 – 18 months)
A relaxed and gentle way to introduce babies to the water with parent and baby enjoying time spent together singing and playing. Parents learn how to teach their babies to submerge safely, float, kick and much more.

MACKEREL (18 months – 3 years)
Teaches young children water confidence by splashing, jumping and singing to water safety. This class prepares children for independent swimming lessons while having fun.

BARRAMUNDIS
The first independent learn to swim level. Children are taught to torpedo unaided, kick on their back with a kick board and float on their front and back. Whilst learning these skills, water safety is a high priority. We ensure children are aware of the dangers of water and show them how to enter and exit the pool safely and confidently.

MANTA RAY
At this level children are taught how to do Freestyle arms with good technique and kick on their back unassisted.

TREVALLEY
Children are taught to breathe on one side only to allow correct technique to become natural. Backstroke arms are introduced, as is Breaststroke kick with the assistance of a kick board.

BARRACUDA
Having acquired the skills to swim Freestyle with breathing, full Backstroke and Breaststroke kick, we refine Freestyle by breathing bilaterally, correct any Backstroke faults and add breathing to the Breaststroke kick. Technique is very important at this level.

BREAM
Distance is a large component and Breaststroke arms and Butterfly are introduced. Time is available to develop Breaststroke and Butterfly to an acceptable level and tumble turns are introduced.

SWORDFISH
Turns in each stroke are taught as well as drills and skills to improve technique. Distance involves swimming many laps to improve endurance, while racing against the clock to improve speed.

Teaching children how to swim is something we’re very proud of at Next Generation Clubs. Should you require any further information, please speak with our swim-school co-ordinator.
